No estimates. No algorithms. No assumptions
Most fitness devices estimate calorie expenditure, VO₂ Max and training intensity using algorithms built from heart rate, movement and population averages. Metabolix measures the respiratory gases those estimates are trying to predict, providing results based on your physiology rather than a formula.
What We Actually Measure
As you breathe, our metabolic analyzer measures oxygen consumption (VO₂) and carbon dioxide production (VCO₂), along with ventilation and respiratory rate. Together, these measurements reveal how much energy your body is using, how that demand changes with exercise intensity, and the relative contribution of fat and carbohydrate to energy production.
Why Mixing-Chamber Technology?
Indirect calorimetry is the gold-standard method for measuring energy expenditure and fuel use. Rather than analyzing each breath in isolation, mixing-chamber technology collects and mixes expired air before analysis, reducing normal breath-to-breath variability and providing a stable respiratory sample from which oxygen consumption and carbon dioxide production can be calculated throughout the assessment.
Measurement & Calibration
Accurate metabolic testing requires more than measuring oxygen and carbon dioxide alone. Environmental conditions including temperature, humidity and barometric pressure are accounted for during testing so respiratory measurements can be standardized and compared consistently across different conditions.
Data With Direction
Measurement is only useful if you know what to do with it. Your results are scored, interpreted and translated into practical targets for how much to eat, how hard to train and where the greatest opportunities for improvement lie.
